Day 18

Bat Pokemon

Under the guise of night, he hunts for those who dare bring havoc, chaos, and tyranny in his city. Shrouded by darkness, he employs the night as an ally to protect those who cannot defend themselves. He gives all and expects nothing in return.

He is...Crobatman!

Today's work continues the parody trend towards pop culture. This time, the very well known fan created meme of Zubatman/Crobatman comes to life for One a Day!

I got around to Crobatman as a focus very quickly. I did a simple sketch of Crobat and examined its features to see if there was anything ripe to explore. To be honest, I was ready to move on right away and sketch out a more menaching human/gijinka style character to actually be Crobatman and that's what I did soon after:

It was a funny little thing to do and I considered continuing the efforts but let's be real - he's honestly just batman without a cape and four wing like thingamajiggers...Who even knows what those are for!? Instead, I sought to do something more subtle and badass - the symbol I created for his chest would be the new highlight of the illustration.

In reality, I should have explored multiple concepts of the Crobatman logo, but I felt like I liked what I had right off the bat. I cleaned up my lines and pulled up textures of carbon fiber to simulate the appearance of the material that would be found on his suit. I decided to add a violet hue to retain Crobat's original design into the mix, although black simply looked better.

That's all for today gang! Hope you like this design and illustration! Please let me know what your thoughts are regarding my work for today with comments and/or critiques, as well as your response to...

Exploring the creatures of Gold and Silver, Pokemon One a Day Series 2 can be seen as both a standalone project and expansion to the original marathon of artwork that sought to present one unique new illustration per day. This project builds upon the exploration of personal technical and philosophical concepts and visual styles under daily deadline to create quality works for personal and professional growth.
