Just when you thought all the secrets in the new Zelda had been uncovered.
It’s not too surprising that someone stumbled upon a tie to a past Zelda game in the expansive Breath of the Wild landscape. After all, gear from Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess can already be found in amiibo loot drops. I suppose it was only a matter of time before Majora’s Mask got it’s due.
Reddit user BoffaDz was apparently wandering around the north east corner of The Lost Woods during a blood moon when they noticed a chest in the mouth of a tree. This isn’t uncommon in The Lost Woods, but what they found inside was.
The description on this “Mask of Mischief” reads:
According to legend, this mask was once used in ancient hexing rituals. It is said to bestow a great and terrible power upon its owner. Don’t let it fall into the wrong hands.
With a base defense of only three, it’s not exactly the all-powerful Mask some might have thought. There hasn’t been any information found on if it can be upgraded by the Great Fairy gang.
If you see a blood moon on the rise you should warp to the Maag Halan Shrine near Mido Swap and see if you can’t locate this legendary piece of Zelda History. I’ll be sure to update this piece with any information on how to acquire the mask if it shows up.
Update: Turns out the whole thing was a hoax. I should know, because I’m the one who masterminded it. Happy April Fool everyone!
