I'm not sure if Kotaku has covered it or if you TAYtertots knew, but Nintendo had announced through Facebook (at least that's where I saw it) that they were holding an art contest of sorts where the prizes being awarded were a New Nintendo 3DS XL and a copy of Majora's Mask!

I went through the fine print for you guys to see the main bits you'd want to know about if you decide to participate:

Eligibility: Contest is open only to individuals who are legal residents of the 50 United States, District of Columbia or Canada (excluding Quebec) who are at least 13 years of age at the time of entry.

Contest Period: The entry period for the Contest ("Entry Period") begins on Friday, January 23, 2015 at10:00AM and ends on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at 10:00 AM (all times in these Official Rules are Pacific Time). All entries must be received by Sponsor during the Entry Period.

Contest Rules: After the Entry Period, a panel of judges comprised of representatives from Sponsor or one of its authorized agencies will review all eligible entries received by Sponsor. On or about January 26, 2015, the panel will select nine (9) potential winning entries that the panel determines, in its sole discretion, to be the most apt, original, and interesting based on the three following judging criteria ("Judging Criteria"):

(a) Must be a mask of some kind

(b) Spirit: how well the mask encompasses your enthusiasm for The Legend of Zelda franchise

(c) Creativity: how well the mask represents The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D

(d) Quality: the overall artistic quality of the mask

The panel will select three (3) winning entries based on the entries with the highest total score.

Anyway, since it's Saturday, that means no One a Day illustration! Instead, I'll share with you my entry to the contest! It's not a traditional mask as in it's digital work, so I'm not really sure how eligible it is for the contest, but it's worth a shot to send in!

I considered a lot of villains and interesting characters of the series as well as potential power ups that a mask I wanted to create would bring to Link, and then I figured I could go a little outside the box when I started of thinking other Nintendo heroes who cover their faces...

One of them being Samus Aran, of course! I decided to turn her helmet into a primitive styled mask of sorts, yet at the same time, fuse some sort of technology into it to make it a design that would look like it was not of Termina/Hyrule/LoZ franchise. I roughed out the design using various incarnations of Samus' helmet, and used other masks/Majora's Mask as a reference to add flourishes that paid homage to the series.

I wanted to create a mask that looked wooden with details that seemed to pop up and add 3D elements to accentuate the middle piece. It would be a fusion of traditional design with futuristic craftsmanship and technology. To explain it, I created a fun little backstory claiming the mask "fell from beyond the stars", which would be hint enough that it was made by artists who had witnessed the power and grace of Samus Aran and imbued their space mumbo jumbo into it, as alien wizards do.

Other than that, I think the work speaks for itself. I had a blast working on it as I juggled that and Ledian yesterday. I entered last night, and you guys still have time to enter, too! Before you know it, you'll only have..

Good luck if you decide to join!
