Brothers Paul and Phil Hartnoll announced earlier today that they are calling it quits.

Sort of. Orbital ends, but both brothers will carry on their own projects individually. "But Shiryu, this is a video game blog, what are you going on about some EDM dinosaur bros?" I sense you thinking with your inner voices.

Point taken. But you might have heard me talk about a certain video game series called WipEout one time or another.

These guys where on both the first and last WipeOut games. These guys are one of the major influences that took me from the path of listening to making electronic music. "P.E.T.R.O.L" was one of the three licensed, non CoLD SToRAGE tracks that featured on the Playstation version of WipEout back in 1995.

" P.E.T.R.O.L" would return in 2012 as one of two Orbital tracks features in the soundtrack for PS Vita's WipEout 2048. "P.E.T.R.O.L" (Final Drop Mix) is perfectly executed and for me, putting both side by side, represents just how far video games have come between the period between 1995 and 2012. Judge for yourself:

Good luck in future projects, Hartnoll brothers.

Orbital is dead. Long live Orbital!
