From Kanto to Kalos, we witness the trials and tribulations of Red’s Pikachu, featuring gratuitous cameos from some of the legendary creatures from the last six generations.

The first episode serves more of a teaser (which makes little sense since we already had a teaser in the form of an announcement trailer earlier this week) rather than a full-fledged story.

One thing to note is the change (again) of Pikachu’s design. From fat to slim via chubby, Pikachu has changed throughout the years, but this is the first time we get to see the marketing merchandise version of Pikachu animated.

This iteration of the pokémon goes back to the earlier days of the of the series, when he sported a chubbier and more adorable look. Similar to the limited edition 3DS XL, this Pikachu presents a rounder face and bigger eyes, but keeps the athletic body of the anime version who serves as Ash companion through his unaccountable failures at trying to become a Pokémon Master.

[Update]

But waaaait there’s more! The second episode of the series is also available to watch, so if you haven’t already seen it, please take a look.

Titled The Chase, it follows the investigation of Detective Looker as he uncovers the truth behind Team Rocket’s boss, Giovanni.
