These days, it's harder to find gamers who haven't played World of Warcraft than to find those that have. That's not remotely true about Blizzard's original three Warcraft games, which comprise the first ten of Wacraft's incredible twenty years on the gaming scene. They're some of the most influential PC games of all time, but they're seldom talked about in a world where the wide-ranging influence of the original trilogy is more important than the trilogy itself. Still, Warcraft 1 and 2 helped kick off the real-time strategy boom of the late nineties, and Warcraft 3 was so influential that people are still playing games built using concepts and characters it pioneered. This video takes a look back at how the games developed over time, with a special emphasis on themes and ideas that would shape World of Warcraft when it came out in 2004.
