Microsoft surprised just about everyone by announcing DLC for Xbox One launch title, Dead Rising 3. Even more surprising was its immediate release. Dead Rising 3, however, doesn't exactly have the greatest track record when it comes to DLC, so how does its latest add-on fare? Surprisingly well, actually.
Super Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX + α is a completely new take on the the base Dead Rising 3 experience. Arcade Remix, like many late '90s action arcade titles is a four-player co-op experience, something the original title couldn't do.
Arcade Remix's visuals differ from those of the original title. Characters are rendered with thick black lines around them, similar to a cel- or comic-shaded style. The result is a game that feels less serious in all the right ways.
Players can select one of four characters or one of their their four alternate costumes, three of which are arcade-themed cosplay outfits from Capcom's arcade classics including Street Fighter, Final Fight, Captain Commando and Dino Crisis. Each costume comes with an appropriate movesetas well, giving Nick Ramos use of Ryu's hadouken, Frank West Mike Haggar's signature pile-driver, Erica Greene Chun-Li's kikouken and Chuck Greene Captain Commando's arsenal, for starters.
Any Capcom arcade title wouldn't be complete without an over-the-top announcer calling the action, and Arcade Remix is no different. All throughout the action a disembodied voice will enthusiastically yell at you in excitement, and I'd have it no other way.
Everything Dead Rising 3's latest DLC brings to the table is completely on point. I already loved the core game, but Arcade Remix is just different enough to keep the game interesting.
If you played and loved Capcom's late-'90s and millennial arcade titles, Super Ultra Dead Rising 3 Arcade Remix Hyper Edition EX + α is for you. If you like zany games or if you own Dead Rising 3, get this now.
