“Is this going to be a stand-up fight, sir, or another bug hunt?”

Happy Weekend TAY!

And a happy long weekend to those in the U.S. I’m scheduled for a weekend of mowing the lawn and just generally puttering around the house. I had a somewhat busy week last week and I’m looking forward to spending some time with my family.

I didn’t get much time to game last week, but I’m slowly plodding on with Mass Effect. Plodding is probably an appropriate word as I often feel the game is designed to fill up time. While backtracking is typical in RPGs, I should NEVER have to go back to talk to someone I have already met in a sci-fi setting. We have radios, cellphones, and interstellar comms, right?

Despite the padding, I am having fun with the story. I’m finally out of The Citadel and just “completed” my first planet of Noveria. It was ok, but I’m having a little trouble getting drawn into the game. It certainly doesn’t call to me when I’m not playing it.

The dumb AI in the combat is my biggest gripe. I think the game would be so much better if the enemies were interesting to fight. It is certainly serviceable but I’ll be glad to move on to the other games in the series that hopefully have a more robust AI.

Oh well, I knew going in that this would likely chafe against my preferred gaming preferences. What it makes me want to do more than anything else is to rewatch all of Babylon 5.

So, aside from the planned yard work, I’m hoping to get some more time with Mass Effect when not helping my kid study for his science test on Monday. Maybe I’ll be able to squeeze in some Rock Band 4 with the family as well.

What are you playing this weekend?
