A continuation of the compilation soundtrack to your life has released today, Final Fantasy fans. With 221 songs of field music to traverse, boss battles to fight and events to trigger, what better way to celebrate Theatrhythm Final Fantasy: Curtain Call and FF music than with a little Mixtape Challenge of our own?

It’s very simple and yet completely daunting: Make a mixtape of 16 of your favourite Final Fantasy songs. Your precious memories of gaming past can include: Songs from Spin-Offs from the Numbered Series. Tactics. Crystal Chronicles. If it has Final Fantasy in the name, it’s good!

But there’s a catch (because of course there is) and this is where it gets a little bit tougher.

Your 16 Songs should not just be your favourite songs ever from the series. Instead you’ll be making your own Final Fantasy adventure with this mixtape.

The 16 things you’ll need:

1. Prelude or Opening Theme

2. Town Music

3. Overworld/Field/World Map Music

4. Character Theme

5. Secondary Character Theme (We should have at least one other member in our party even if the party calls for 3 or 4. We’re going to limit it to one for this mixtape)

6. Villain Theme

7. Battle Music

8. Town in Trouble/Tragedy/Major Event Music

It’s not that bad, right? Well... except picking one in each category, particularly when it gets to boss battle music and final boss music it’s going to be a bit harder, probably. It is for me.

In any event, here is my Mixtape!

  1. Final Fantasy VIII - Liberi Fatali
  2. Final Fantasy V - Home Sweet Home
  3. Final Fantasy X - Sprouting Confusion
  4. Final Fantasy VII - Cid’s Theme
  5. Final Fantasy VI - Setzer’s Theme
  6. Final Fantasy IX - Kuja’s Theme
  7. Final Fantasy Tactics - Night Attack
  8. Final Fantasy IX - Those Whom We Must Protect
  9. Final Fantasy XII - Esper Battle
  10. Final Fantasy VII - Waltz de Chocobo
  11. Final Fantasy III - The Enterprise Soars the Sky
  12. Final Fantasy IX - You’re Not Alone
  13. Final Fantasy VII - Judgment Day
  14. Final Fantasy VIII - The Legendary Beast
  15. Final Fantasy VII - One Winged Angel
  16. Final Fantasy VIII - Ending Theme and Credits

It’s always been really hard for me to decide between “One Winged Angel” and “Dancing Mad”. Then there’s Final Fantasy Tactics as well. Plus “Clash on the Big Bridge”, “The Burdened”... ugh. So many great themes to choose from!

Enough from me though—what would your Mixtape be? Make your list in the comments!

Oh, and one last thing: Once you’re done, end it all with your favourite Final Fantasy victory fanfare or smooth move in the form of a gif.

You deserve it. You just saved the world with one brilliant soundtrack, after all.
