The Speakys have spoken, and it's a unified Game of the Year championship belt for The Last of Us—Game of the Year (Kotaku), Game of the Year (Kotaku readers' choice) and now Game of the Year (Speakys/Kotaku Talk Amongst Yourselves).
Well, it's not exactly a surprise that the title that managed to win the Kotaku GOTY and the Reader's Choice GOTY also managed to get the most votes for the third annual Speakys. That's right, The Last of Us is your 2013 Speakys Game of the Year!
It joins Skyrim and Borderlands 2 on the top of the mountain, while A Link Between Worlds snagged the respectable runner-up position. But that doesn't mean Nintendo's newest Zelda adventure didn't have some stiff competition. It only edged out GTAV and Bioshock Infinite by ten votes to take second place! And let's not forget about Fire Emblem, a game that almost took third and was (for a brief moment) winning the whole shebang. Here are all the numbers for the final vote.
I'd like to thank everyone who voted in round one and in round two. I'm always happy to see how these awards turn out, even if there seems to be a clear winner from the start. Let's have a round of applause for all the games that made 2013 another wonderful year to be gamer. 2014 will surely produce some fantastic titles and I can't wait to see who wins next year.
