Hey everyone! Welcome to the Graveyard Shift, the nightly hang-out hosted by Kotaku’s reader-run blog, TAY. This is a place to talk about anything - your lives, your gaming habits, or whatever else you desire. Hop on in and join the discussion! When you’re done here, you could always go check out the articles over at TAY or TAYClassic! Or, if this is your first time at TAY, please check out this TAYtorial!
For those of you who were lucky enough to avoid my various rants over it, I’m a very out-spoken Bawls enthusiast. Pretty much ever since I had my first can of Bawls at a convention... maybe twelve years ago, I’ve kind of been hooked on the stuff. While it’s fame and availability seems to come in waves, and has very noticeably dipped down in the last few years, I’ve been lucky enough that it hasn’t entirely gone out of production.
That being said, it’s far from easy to get. Once upon a time, I used to be able to make the awkward trek to Comp. USA and ask them “Where do you guys keep your Bawls?” But now, since nobody carries it, it’s a lot harder to get without spending a ton in shipping by getting it from ThinkGeek or something. Even then, if I’m super desperate, there are times when they don’t really carry the right flavors that I want.
There’s probably one opportunity a year I can take to get it, considering it’s not carried often by my local specialty soda store, so whenever I can get some, I usually go overboard and try to get way more than I’ll ever need for a year— about one “pallet” (which is around twenty-four, in this case). I try to make them last a year, just because of how hard they are to get, but sometimes it just doesn’t work out. This year, it’s worked out particularly well, since I managed to save extra from last-year and still have about twenty left, and I’m going to be able to restock in about a month or two.
Anyway, the point is, Neryl cares about soda way too much. But more importantly, sometimes things that we really care about become hard to find suddenly. What are some of the horror stories you have with trying to find things you once loved, TAY? Was there a certain game you were waiting for to go on sale, but suddenly disappeared? Fan of that Coke Blak stuff that I keep bringing up? Your favorite chain restaurant falling out of favor? Maybe you went through Nintendo 64 controllers like mad because of Mario Party but suddenly couldn’t find any? Talk about this and other things down below.
Is everything you’ve ever loved in plentiful supply? Maybe you just don’t love anything? Well then, feel free to talk about life, love, gaming, or whatever else you desire. The
