Pokemon One a Day: Vaporeon
Bubble Jet Pokemon
The aquatic Vaporeon makes its arrival on today's Pokemon One a Day!
Last I tried watercolour, it was unintentional and even still I wouldn't consider it a watercoulour piece. I wanted today's work to be a proper piece in that direction but this attempt too fails in creating that. Watercolour for a water type Pokemon, you know? It would of worked...But today's rendition works as well!
With a sweeping stroke in the shape of an arc, I filled in a Vaporeon to create a dynamic pose that ends up being abstract yet representational due to a silhouette emerging. The piece was originally planned to be a lot looser and free, but its me who's holding the brush...I've found that a lot of times when I plan something out, it'll be unlike what I see in my mind for better or for worse. Here...It's a mix of both considering I really wanted what I had in mind to shine through.
Of course, I'm still content with what I have here. It's simple and still illustrates the Bubble Jet Pokemon and coincidentally depicts a certain ability it has- which is to reorganize its molecular structure to allow it to transform into water and back at will. There is a movement here that looks like water and waves jumping that adds to this detail and I think people will enjoy that about its piece - seeing that unique trait but also the brush of a watercolour stroke that had met Photoshop. I would overlay that with streams of lighting hitting through to make it look like water was now filling the work, and that's where I said I had to stop adding details when at first I wanted none at all.
So there you! A straight forward piece that once again, took on its own shape from what was originally intended. The Eeveelutions are beloved and for good reason, so I hope that you enjoy Vaporeon and the following two! Stay tuned, mmkay?! Hope you had a fun weekend.
+ Pokemon One a Day is a series illustrated and curated by Bonny John in an effort to represent the the first generation of characters from the world wide phenomenon that is known as Pokemon. The idea is simple - to draw and share one new Pokemon a day (weekends off!) until every Pokemon from the set is completed. This project is an exploration of fine art styles for learning and leisurely purposes.
