Good evening and welcome to Tool Week on Word of the Day! A journey through the English vocabulary and the words that piqued my interest are the titles of Tool songs, in WotD we'll be learning a new word for each working day of the week, except holidays, unless there's a holiday special...
Today's word is:
Intension
|in-ˈten(t)-shən|
Noun
- intensity
- connotation
Also, track eight on Tool's fourth album, 10,000 Days
"Pure as we begin
Pure as we come in
Pure as we begin
Ruled by will alone"
ORIGIN: 17th cent.: First known use: 1604
One Letter Makes a Difference
Intension, which means intensity or connotation, is not to be confused with Intention, which is the determination to act in a certain way or what one intends to do or bring about. Most people believe Intension to be a misspelling of the word Intention, which is probably how it first came to be in the first place, but it does, in fact, have it's own definition.
