Mafia 3, 2K’s highly-anticipated followup to 2010's Mafia 2 will not be available to press prior to release, thus preventing any reviews from being released prior to or on the day of the game’s launch.
This information is important as Mafia 3 is slated to be 2K’s largest release for the year despite the recent release of NBA 2K17 and the release of Civilization 6 on October 21.
In a call with Polygon, a 2K representative offered Polygon a copy of the game which would be playable upon the game’s “first global activation” on digital retail stores, or approximately 4:00 AM Pacific standard time Thursday October 6.
Being an independent critic, I was not offered a copy of said code (as of the time of this post) and will thus acquire a retail copy of the game at the release of the game. Because of this a review of the game will not be available for several days or more after release, but I will do my best to hasten the rate at which I can publish a full review of the game.
