Illustration for article titled 3DS Games Going out of Print?

Video games have been a part of my life for many years now, but this is the first time I’ve ever encountered this phenomenon. I mean, you can easily get a copy of Vagrant Story for the PS1 if you really wanted to play it nowadays. So, when I picked up a copy of Bravely Second on sale, I decided to see this ride all the way through and started to look for a used copy of Bravely Default, but they seem to be going for the price of a new 3DS game. Even a new copy runs about $60 on most outlets. Never mind the fact that it seems that most of these outlets are running low on stock.

Upon seeing this, I decided to check a few other titles that I’ve either bought or have been on my radar for my collection. And here are the results (using Amazon since Marketplace tends to offer more than one seller):

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds ($49.40 with four copies left)

Fire Emblem Awakening ($43.94 with copies on hand)

Xenoblade Chronicles 3D ($63.50! with seven copies left)

Fire Emblem Conquest ($37.99 used only)

Fire Emblem Birthright ($37.99 used only)

So, I guess my question to those that collect 3DS games is, have you noticed this trend with games on your radar as well? Is this 3DS shortage something more than previously reported? Or is Nintendo simply moving resources to the Switch to later come back to 3DS production? Because right now, this feels like a system being phased out given the lack of copies on hand for somewhat popular titles.
