Color me surprised, I never expected that a small RPG, like Alliance Alive, tossing me straight into its world with about 5 minutes of scripted events would engage me so quickly. The game starts off by describing its melancholic world where Demon enslaved humanity 1000 years prior to the start of the game, but then breaks up the melancholy by introducing me to the games fun main characters. I had a smile on my face the entire time as the main characters were asked to deliver a basket of cookies with information secretly stored away in the basket to a branch of the demon resistance group, while almost every NPC I could interacted with were either depressed of gigantic jerks.

I’m also incredibly impressed with how FuRyu (the company that made Alliance Alive) improved the battle system and the pacing of Alliance Alive from their previous JRPG, Legend of Legacy. I really like the fact that you have access to basically every weapon type in the game from the get go and you start off with a bunch of talent points that make acquiring skills for those weapons more frequent. This was just such a huge improvement from Legend of Legacy’s systems because it’s made growth in the earlier game feel much faster and meaningful. The Alliance Alive’s battle systems just feel so fine tuned and different from most other RPGs that I can’t wait to delve more into the character customization

Man, the exploration even in the prologue of the game was so great. Like I said earlier, you have to st through about 5 minutes of cuts scene an WHAM!, you’re exploring the world, albeit a small part of the world. Also, the various different gizmos you could interact with the first dungeon in the were a riot. I just love the room with various different paintings you can interact with because of how it works out to be some surrealist joke. Specifically, when examined one painting, I found a secret treasure chest behind it. The next painting I examined was a painting of a monster that jumped out of the painting and then attacked me much to the MC’s surprise. Next was a painting of a treasure chest… which turned out to be a treasure chest that I could open… Finally, I examined a picture of a barrel, which had the same painting monster that attacked me in the 2nd painting, to which the MC said the equivalent of “what the fuck!” I just couldn’t stop laughing at how weird that sequence played out.

I just can’t wait to get back to playing Alliance Alive. I can’t wait to see what weird thing the game throws at me next.
