Illustration for article titled AniTAY: OreImo Ending Discussion

It's the end of an era here at AniTAY. Beloved favorite, OreImo, has aired its last. What do you think of the ending? I'll be writing some of my impressions below. Feel free to share yours too! [My review doesn't have spoilers beyond telling what pair the ending follows but the same probably won't be true for the comments]

I, for one, think it was a great ending. Well, by ending, I actually mean the last few minutes. It was a very natural and satisfying conclusion to a situation that might have turned off some of the viewers (myself included, not because of the incest, but because I prefer the other pairings).

As for the whole of the 3 episodes, they were good. Much as my mind would like me to hate OreImo for not choosing Ayase or Kuroneko, I still can't. Even with the absurd turn of events and avalanche of rejections, the show remains entertaining and fun to watch.

The 3 episodes unabashedly focus on Kirino and Kyousuke. The other characters, specially Kuroneko, are not at the top of their game. Ayase doesn't make an appearance outside of a flashback which is lame. Even Kanako had a short segment. Manami, on the other hand, is redeemed. I hated how she was in episode 13. Thankfully, the last episode really redeems her character. Unfortunately, the whole proceeding seemed quite unnecessary after the twist at the end.

Kirino, being the focus of these three episodes, is ok. She isn't as good as she was back in the first season but I think she's better than how she was in some episodes of the second season. Kirino and Kyousuke's relationship also doesn't feel awkward. Possibly, it's because they're portrayed more as great friends than actual lovers. I actually quite like this aspect of OreImo wherein not every relationship has to be very sexual. Even Kyousuke's attempts at taking advances are funny and laughed off.

Overall, I'm quite happy with how it ended. I'm actually really sad that it's all over. OreImo cheered me up during hard times and it will be hard to accept that there won't be any more of it. In between Evangelion, Lain and other anime, OreImo helped keep me happy, even if just for 20 minutes a week. I'll be missing this show a lot and I'm really happy that the ending gave it justice.
