I'm really feeling it!

Balancing Hype and Realistic Expectations

This morning I awoke to news that my favorite game franchise of all time will be getting a new entry. Microsoft and 343 Industries have announced that Halo 5: Guardians will be releasing in Fall 2015. As a massive Halo fan I would love to get hyped up for this but another part of me is telling me not to get excited just yet.

I'm a huge Halo fan as I said before, so naturally I was excited to hear that I will be getting a new Halo next year. My hype train is already getting ready to depart. "Halo 5? Awesome! Oh and it has a subtitle too! What does it mean? I need to know!" But then there's another side of my brain that's telling me to chill out and wait for more details. "You got all hyped for Halo 4 and then it didn't meet your high expectations, and remember the last Halo with a subtitle was a glorified expansion pack."

When Halo 4 was announced I was super excited. My excitement only grew when 343 did an excellent job with Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary. As more details came out, I was getting so hyped up for the game. Then it actually came out and I was kind of let down. It was a good game but it wasn't as good as I was expecting. My expectations may have been a bit too high.

So I will hold my excitement in for now and wait for E3 which really isn't that far away. But in the end, how much does it matter? You know I'm going to get excited for it anyway because Halo is my favorite franchise after all. I just need to find the right balance of excitement and realistic expectations.
