I'm really feeling it!

There is a serious lack of StarCraft characters at the moment in Heroes of the Storm. I wrote previously, how realized that it would be impossible to have a balanced team composition using only StarCraft heroes. While focusing on a healer, did mention that there is no character to take on the role of tank/warrior. I also wrote about Arcturus Mengsk, while the game was still in Beta, being a good addition to the character line-up. However, my opinion has changed from what I wrote previously, but I still think he should be brought into the Nexus.

Arcturus Mengsk

“Arcturus Mengsk. There’s a name that is synonymous with terror, betrayal and violence. A living example of the ends justifying the means. The assassin of the Confederacy of Man. The hero of the blasted world of Korhal IV. King of the universe. A savage barbarian who never let anything or anyone get in his way. And yet, he is charming, erudite and intelligent. When you’re in his presence you feel that he’s really listening to you, that your opinions matter, that you’re someone important if you agree with him” - Michael Liberty (StarCraft 2 News Reporter)

As the Emperor of the Terran Dominion, Arcturus is the most powerful man in the StarCraft universe. In my imagination, I had Mengsk somewhere between a support and assassin role, much like the damage build of Tassadar, but now I think it only seems fit that the evil Emperor of the Korpulu sector would be a warrior. While Heroes of the Storm is fully stocked with assassins and specialists from StarCraft, they forgot to add in a warrior and a true healing support character or three.

Mengsk is a master manipulator, using his enemies in de-facto alliances to propel his agenda further. His abilities could have a theme revolving around propaganda, upping the stats of the heroes and minions around him, while simultaneously silencing his enemies. In the lore of StarCraft, Mengsk used the Dominion-controlled media to propel his propaganda in order to marginalize Raynor and his Raiders. While he refused to assassinate Raynor for fear of turning him into a martyr, he hunted the Raiders, preventing them from resting or rearming. While it is well documented in StarCraft lore that he used Kerrigan and essentially made her the Queen of Blades, he has also had a relationship with Nova, another powerful Terran Ghost. Nova Terra training was overseen by Mengsk. As part of an “overhaul” of the Ghost Program, he eliminated half of his government’s ghosts in a controlled environment. Mengsk helped forged the animosity between Kerrigan and Nova, which is on display through their dialogue in Heroes of the Storm. I can only imagine the plot of the canceled StarCraft: Ghost, would have revolved around the relationship between the government of the Terran Dominion controlled by Mengsk and Nova herself.

“No, I am not Kerrigan. And if I had my own game you’d know that.” - Nova

Mengsk would be a perfect addition from the StarCraft universe to enter the Nexus, with a rich history of adversaries and alliances forged in the heat of battle. A team including Mengsk, Raynor, Kerrigan, and Nova would definitely have some great dialogue between characters in-game. Anyone who loves the lore of StarCraft would not be disappointed with the possibilities Heroes of the Storm could add with Mengsk in the line-up. The only thing that could make the deal sweeter is if Blizzard debuted a new StarCraft themed map along side the new character. I for one would love to battle on a space platform, Auir, Mar Sara, or Zerus. Until then, I’ll have to dream about mercenary camps filled with Marines & Goliaths, Zelots & Dragoons, or Zerglings & Hydralisks.

Let me know in the comments below what you want to see added and what other characters could take the role of warrior from the StarCraft universe.
