Today we feature a fish that sorta looks like a bug to me - the cute and odd Chinchou! This little fella is a fun little design that I messed around with in a cartoony manner - I went loose and sketchy for a skittish look. He is part electric after all; he's jittery, and that was a focus in the artistic direction!
My original draft didn't change too much for this piece. I've always thought he was cute, so I went with big eyes and an expression of awe and wonderment. I quickly moved on as I realized the creature wouldn't be obsessed with his dangling lightbulbs - he'd probably be sort of sick of them after a while!
Thus, I changed the expression to appear more happy in a silly, loony sorta way, as if the bugger was incredibly annoyed by his gifts. I gave him baggy eyes and the appearance that he never got any sleep because of these lights, almost making him look...sorta...uhh...under the influence-y...haha.
But he's not! Cause drugs aren't cool, and always stay in school! Unless you've graduated from school and do adult things like pretend to be responsible and know what you're doing in life.
So, the style and approach was to be loose and tight. The work looks manicured enough but there are still loose lines and colors that produce an active energy, fitting for a pokemon that would be releasing electric currents.
And there you have it! One strangely adorable Chinchou, at your service! Thanks gang for tuning in, and be sure to leave your comments and critiques below. I also need you to give me your reply to...
The Question of the Day!
Your Chinchou short circuited your Pokedex by accident, thus erasing all the data you obtained regarding all the creatures you've met on your journey. You feel angry and upset, and close your eyes to contemplate how to handle the situation. All of a sudden, you see numbers and codes and letters flying about your mind. What the!? Chinchou fused the Pokedex core to your brain and you're all matrix-y! Wowza!
You now have electricity at your fingertips as well as data that you can download to your mind at will. What is your first order of business with your new powers?
