Fly Scorpion Pokemon
Tell me...Do you bleed? You will.
GLIGAR V ERRBODY! Welcome to the start of a new week of One a Day. Today on display is a caped crusader...Well not officially of course. I’ve been on such a kick after loving the soul out of Daredevil’s Netflix romp and the Batman V Superman trailer so I had to do something comic-y for the dumbly classified “fly scorpion” pokemon.
Gligar is sorta silly in that he’s pink. Just straight up pink. They rectify the palette to be more intimidating with the evo which in my opinion is over-designed and sort of unnecessary. That said, I decided to go black and white after a draft exploring color options looked really weak to the direction I wanted to go for.
I obviously took on inspiration from Batman for this one, and you may recall my Crobat write up included work for a WIP draft of a legit Crobatman. I thought for half a second maybe to humanize Gligar but I was already ditching the pink of the character for the illustration so I thought the black and white features of an anthropomorphic Gligar would be even less more recognizable to the audience.
I guess at the end of the day the piece isn’t true “comic book style” but shaded slightly in a way of it. I still want to do a set of comic panels for a One a Day and I guess I can hold that style in my pocket for a future piece. For now, enjoy the dark knight of scorpions or whatever! Thanks for tuning in, lovely peoples!
QOTD: What is Gligar’s origin story?!
