I was in first place... until I took a sparrow to the knee.
Destiny’s SRL (Sparrow Racing League) is a blast. In spite of having only two tracks, my wife and I played for several hours last night with a level of competition normally reserved for Mario Kart. Like Mario Kart, Destiny’s Sparrow racing is arcadey and fun, but quite difficult to master.
That said, apparently some people don’t need to master sparrow racing. They are content with simply ensuring that whoever is in first place doesn’t stay there. Some people simply want to watch the world burn.
McBelieven is one such person. It was the last race of the night, and I had a solid lead going into the final stretch. Even after playing for hours, I only had a couple first-place finishes, so the idea of winning my last race was thrilling.
McBelieven had other plans.
This player was in last place going into the final lap, so he or she decided that if they were going down, they were going to take me with them. McBelieven placed themselves in the middle of the track before the final stretch. I turned a corner and barely clipped the back of their Sparrow as I sped past.
That was all it took.
As you can see in the heartbreaking replay video, that tiny ambush was enough to launch my sparrow into the air, significantly slowing me down. Within seconds, four players passed me, and I ended the game in 5th place. Watch to the end of the video to see the fateful moment in slo-mo.
It was a dirty maneuver, but it was also quite clever, so I can’t even be mad.
Ok, I can be a little mad.
