Edit: On November 21 I posted this article, that according to a man called Nando Monterazo, claiming to be a software engineer at Nintendo of America, Nintendo was working on an Android tablet for educational purposes. I'm really sorry to have gotten some of you hyped up but this news has been confirmed fake by Nintendo. The latter officially confirmed that Nando Monterazo never worked for them. His twitter account has even been brought down as of yesterday (22 Nov.) You can read more on sky news. If anything more develops on this issue, I will be sure to update this post.

Again, my sincere apologies for posting wrong information here! I shall be more careful about my information sources in the future...

No, it's not the WiiU GamePad. It's an actual tablet that Nintendo is working on. It is being developed as an educational tablet for children using Nintendo characters in educational games.

The news came from recent tweets from Nintendo of America Software Engineer Nando Monterazo. The latter explained that the tablet, unrelated to the WiiU GamePad, will be written in C or C++ on a Unix-based platform, and to that purpose Nintendo is experimenting with Google's Android mobile operating system.

Following is the full tweets lineup as compiled by nintendoeverything.com:

Experimenting with a tablet of Nintendo, the system is based on android, fully modified and unified as a database of the tablet. #Android

Nintendo is testing only the "Android" but in fact she wants a system written in C/C++ in a Unix environment for the system single tablet!

Many people will be wondering if games "Nes", "SNES" or "Game Boy" the tablet will not have these games, educational games only! #Tablet

So what do you make of it?

Despite Nando Monterazo specifying the tablet being an educational tool for children, do you think it's Nintendo's move towards tackling the mobile/tablet market?

Is Nintendo testing grounds or really getting involved in education (ugh!) ?

How will this work out?

Above all, why did this news come out of the blue from a software engineer and not 'officially' from Nintendo itself?
