In recent years we have seen an explosion in anime games especially in the fighting game genre, with heavy hitters such as Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 being huge hits and even leading to more niche titles such as JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven next month. However in licensed anime games one franchise has always stood out and that is Dragon Ball the grand daddy of mainstream anime games.
Update: This is only launching for current generation consoles. Likely allowing for a more flashy game now that it has thrown off the shackles of the last generation. PS4, Xbox One, and PC (Steam).
After a clunker brawler of Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Z Namco was looking for a big hit and it found it with Dragon Ball Xenoverse. Launched around the time of Battle of Gods and Resurrection F’ the series saw a major resurgence in the west. It’s not surprising that the Namco countdown site has revealed that they’ll be returning to the Xenoverse universe with Xenoverse 2.
While not an unexpected development it is a welcome one. As Xenoverse was certainly from the fun and easy side of fighting games being very welcoming for players not as used to the more mechanic heavy competitors like Street Fighter and BlazBlue. Furthermore with its RPG like character creation system it was the first time people really felt like they had their own place in the Dragon Ball universe. I know I felt attached to my Freiza race character Zero.
With Super continuing to provide new and interesting stories in this universe I for one am excited for this game. Considering its genre that is really rare however I cant wait to make myself a new Time Patroller. Plus with the teaser using images from Dragon Ball, GT, and Super as well as the movies for each its looking like we’ll get a much fuller experience that everyone can enjoy. Even the weirdos who like GT...
There was so much excitement for the game that the launch website crashed. It’s being redirected to the launch trailer. Dragon Ball fans are excited it seems.
