The Ekans in the header is not drawn by me! Its by the artist who provides the official work, Ken Sugimori. I've decided for future headers to use his art so I can
A) Create suspense as you open the kinder egg of art
B)Some of you are not familiar with Pokemon, so you can compare what the actual creature looks like to my interpretation
That out of the way, let's begin!
Ekans is a dude who I knew EXACTLY how I wanted to interpret from day one. When I mentioned during the Metapod description that I had other ideas for implementation of text for representation, this was what I was referring to.
Its very straight forward, very clean, and I'm very content with it. I know Ekans really is not that long, but I choose the "artistic freedom" card to block your onslaught of that one criticism. I really don't have much to say today, as the design speaks for itself. The work in progress was a simple progression of cleaning and tightening up how I shaded and lit up the body, making sure that the curls and loops made follow one straight path. Originally, the design was a dark purple, but I opted to return it to the original lighter purple shade with a touch of saturation to it.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy the work! Be sure to share the project around, and see you tomorrow!
+ Pokemon One a Day is a series illustrated and curated by Bonny John in an effort to represent the entire catalogue of characters from the world wide phenomenon that is known as Pokemon. The idea is simple - to draw and share one new Pokemon a day (weekends off!) until every Pokemon is completed. This project is an exploration of fine art styles for learning and leisurely purposes.
