First off, take a look at the new Spearow! I updated the last PoaD post as well. I made sure to edit it yesterday so it's not really cheating to do so, is it? Either way, the changes made reflect Spearow's personality much better. He's angular and sharp, and I gave him a scar to show how badass this little spunky fellow can be. Anyway, I feel better and sought to make sure Fearow could be the best it could be.
Fearow is up at bat today, and I'm really happy with the end result. As you've seen, I fixed up Spearow after releasing it the first time around. I must have been drunk when I released the art...even though I don't drink alcohol. The last one I felt I should update was Weedle and there was a bit of a gap between the two so I figured it was time I needed to fumble. It keeps me humble because of how all of you have been so supportive and kind and seemingly enjoying these releases. That said, Fearow needed to come out strong.
Originally, I worked up a Fearow based on a crane and painted it in the style of a Japanese ink painting sumi-e style. It came out really nice, if I may say so myself...However I didn't want to waste that style for a Pokemon I can't say I care for too much. Instead, I'm saving it for a Pokemon that I think would benefit furthermore...A Pokemon with a sword or two...Kinda make him a bit of a samurai...Maybe ;)
But anyway, I wanted to get a little more loose and explore the form in a radically safe way, if that oxymoron makes sense. My Fearow still has the old features of the original, but exaggerated a bit, in a cartoony body rendered out semi realistically. I changed his wings to be more pinkish red, to keep the stylings of Fearow to help relate the two since the original evo is not very telling.
And that about wraps it up! I hope you enjoy today's work. Be sure to share the project around, and thanks for looking!
+ Pokemon One a Dayis a series illustrated and curated by Bonny John in an effort to represent the entire catalogue of characters from the world wide phenomenon that is known as Pokemon. The idea is simple - to draw and share one new Pokemon a day (weekends off!) until every Pokemon is completed. This project is an exploration of fine art styles for learning and leisurely purposes.
