About the only thing Ocarina of Time has over Twilight Princess–

–is that it came first.

Despite an opening act that lasts several hours longer than it should, once the game gets going, it’s clear Nintendo threw everything it had at making the ultimate Zelda. So many dungeons, so many cool sword moves including mounted combat, super cool items like a lantern actually required to light up dark caves, an open world that felt cohesive, engaging story arcs for many of the characters (except Link, of course, never Link). This game had it all.

And we were indifferent to it!

Yet I admit feeling the same when it came out.

It was too similar to Ocarina of Time, its art style way too Lord of the Rings for its own good (though, to be fair, everything felt too much like Lord of the Rings for a while), the aforementioned terrible opening act, having to collect too many light orbs or whatever to transform out of wolf mode (which was fixed, somewhat, in the Wii U remaster).

Replaying TP recently, I was struck by how wonderful it truly is. It may, in fact, be the best of the pre-BotW 3D Zeldas. And, yes, that includes Ocarina of Time and Majora’s Mask (which, psst, is kinda really overrated).

Heresy, you say?

Play it again yourself and you may become a convert!

Hey! Like this meme? Hate it? Indifferent to it all? Either way, I’m gonna make a few more and post them to here, my reddit (u/the_gammelier) and twitter (@thegammelier). It’s dangerous to go alone, so why not follow me?
