Sometimes a game comes along that gets you completely by surprise...
I was back in 2013 that Facepalm Games platform / puzzler The Swapper turned some heads when it was released on PC. Thanks to Curve Studios, Sony console owners got a taste of it earlier this year and now, at long last the game has come to Wii U. I purposely remained away from the game so I could better appreciate it now that I can finally play it in the comfort of my console of choice. Ok, lets fire this up:
You know you're unto something special when you sit down to make a 15-20 minute gameplay video and you end up with 42 minutes worth of footage. I haven't been hooked on a "Metroidvania" like this since Guacamelee. JUDGEMENT:
The Swapper is not "yet another sci-fi indie game", it's a beautiful gameplay concept with mind rattling puzzles and an amazing, desolate Super Metroid like atmosphere that you need to experience it, that you need to explore. Just like Stealth Inc. 2, the satisfaction of solving the room riddles will keep you glued to the screen for quite some time to come. I admit: I will be sad when I finish this game, but until that time comes: Turn off the lights, touch the game icon on the Gamepad, tune out the real word, tune in the Theseus and listen to the beautiful, minimalist, nearly non-existent music while scratching your head because you just can't solve the current puzzle with just four clones.
Play Hard, Play LOUD! ᕙ(⇀‸↼‶)ᕗ
