No smoke and mirrors tonight, ladies and gentlemen. Tonight’s topic is actually pretty serious for TAY as a whole. Are...are we still going to be here in the near future?
For those of you who haven’t heard, Gawker Media just received an 115 million dollar leg drop from the Hulkster. As I’m sure we all are capable of realizing, that isn’t an insignificant amount of change, even for a multimillion dollar company like Gawker. And of course, Gawker owns the likes of Jezebel, Deadspin, io9, and most important to this little slice of the internet, TAY.
I’m not a lawyer. I have no legal experience to speak of. I haven’t a clue if Gawker’s upcoming appeal stands any chance. Any of you have anything resembling an idea of what happens to TAY if Gawker goes bust? I’d love to hear it. I’m sure the big sites like Jez, Kotaku and io9 will get bought up and survive. But I’m scared for the future of a site I’ve loved a lot over the years. Regardless of your opinion on the company and their actions that led to this, I don’t think any of us would like to see TAY go down in flames over it.
This has been your longtime friend and cryptkeeper, JB. And I hope we all can figure out a way to keep TAY a thing into the future. This has been home for many of us for a long time now.
