If you haven’t already heard, Gawker Media has filed for Chapter 11. What does that mean for our little community? Let’s talk this through.
I don’t have answers as to how this directly impacts TAY. But GBD and I would like to say that our tentative plans will be to build the site elsewhere, should TAY no longer be able to remain here. We’ve been discussing it for a while now with some others. The plan right now is to buy a domain, and we’ll set up shop. We’ll have our discord channel running still. We’ll just have to carry our very great community to a different corner of the internet.
The logistics of all of this is something we’ll need to hammer out, and we will do so together.
I’ve personally called TAY home for over 3 years now, in its current iteration. During that time I’ve made so many good friends, and seen so many awesome discussions happen. I’ve seen great writing, respectful discourse, and wonderful people. We’ve had our ups and downs but at the end of it all, we’ve been in it together. We spent holidays together. We share our daily lives with each other.
I truly believe we’re a fantastic community. I’m constantly amazed by the kindness and level of talent we have here. You guys give me encouragement every day, make me laugh daily, and I’m happy to be a part of that.
None of this should fall to the wayside. I’m pretty sure many of you feel that way too. We won’t let it happen.
So for now, just a few words of reassurance. Please keep writing. Keep sharing. We’re business as usual but this is just an open line of communication for us to get started on a more serious conversation should it come to pass that TAY needs to find a new Internet home.
E3 is next week, so we’ll be busier than usual but please, write to us at any time. My e-mail is: Zarnyx@gmail.com. GBD’s is email@example.com. I_Kluge’s is TAYKluge@gmail.com.
Love you guys, truly. Tell us your thoughts in the comments. Let’s talk about it as a community.
- Please consider backing up your articles sooner rather than later.
- If you’d like to keep an open channel of communication to stay in touch with TAY’ers should anything drastically happen in the next few days, please feel free to leave your best method of contact in the comments that you wouldn’t mind sharing with others.
- Kotaku has updated their readers with their plans to continue their daily operation. TAY is being sold off to Nabisco (Fahey jokes. But I expect he’ll review us favorably for Snacktaku).
