So after months of anticipation, the World Cup has finally kicked off. The opening game between Brazil and Croatia finished 3-1 to the hosts, but the scoreline is extremely deceptive. The game was a lot more memorable than the opener from the previous World Cup (a draw between Mexico and South Africa) and had its share of highs and lows, starting with an own goal that put Croatia ahead and capped off with a wonderful long range shot by Oscar in injury time. Ultimately, it was defined by an abysmal refereeing error that tilted the game in Brazil's favor. The Croats played well against the tournament favorites but will certainly feel robbed by a poor decision.
