Hey folks! I’m back from NDK aka Nan Desu Kan, the largest anime convention in Colorado.
This was my 4th Artist Alley at the con, and it was interesting because the convention moved locations from the old Marriott in Englewood to the Sheraton in downtown Denver. The move was a HUGE improvement over the last couple of years because the old location was busting at the seams. The location was bigger, better organized with more features and a much larger Artist Alley. Set up was a bit of a hassle because my original location was right behind a column. Not only could people not see me, I had no space for myself or my stuff, but thankfully the con staff let me rotate it so I’d be next to the people who sold dragon plushies.
Things were a jumble of energy altogether because during Labor Day weekend is also the annual Taste of Colorado, a fair that lets food vendors and artisans show off their wears. Traffic was tricky but somehow my friend and I got parking without too much trouble since lots of people, particularly locals, used public transit instead. My best friend Drake came out from Maryland to attend the con and visit me as sort of an early birthday present because my birthday is this Wednesday.
I didn’t really do any panels this year because I was so busy, but I did manage to sneek away for a bit to hit the Rhythm Game room, which was a nice new addition, and go to the dealer’s room. The dealer’s room was also a lot bigger than in years past, which is a major blessing because it finally meant some change-up in the merchandise. My biggest complaint was the exact same people bring the exact same stuff every year. There were new vendors and people selling wigs and cosplay supplies. Alas, still no BJD dealers, but I didn’t walk away empty-handed. I got three Cardcaptor Sakura figures I was lusting after and another one of the Magic Knight Rayearth dolls I’ve been hunting for years.
But now of course, is time for pictures! Big surprise for me is that in spite of being an anime con, there were loads more western cosplays than anime-based ones this year. Lots of Steven Universe, Five Nights at Freddy’s, Gravity Falls and RBWY. There are more photos at my Facebook page, these are just the game based pictures I took:
And to those who are interested, I do have some leftover Final Fantasy VII wallscrolls and the Final Fantasy VI prints. The prints are 10 and the wallscrolls are 45. If you want one of the wallscrolls I’ll give free shipping to all TAY peeps from the US (alas, international shipping costs an arm and a leg). Just leave me a comment so we can arrange things.
