Welcome back, amigos to another Open Forum. I hope you peeps are doing fantastic and if you’re not, hang in there! So, let’s keep talking about Valkyries. If you guys remember last week I was absorbed in the Norse mythos and just outta nowhere Squeenix comes out and teases something related to Valkyrie Profile and I wish I could say I’m excited but given how the Secret of Mana remake and the Chrono Trigger PC port turned out, I really don’t think those wings are gonna fly, and that is a shame, because the Japanese voice acting is far superior to the American one and the gameplay has some interesting ideas that I would absolutely love to present to the newer generation. Here’s hoping.

On the previous week, I also finished Odin Sphere. I already loved every second of my time with it, but when all the stories came together to make one singular climax, the credits start rolling and the credits song came in, I think a single manly tear rolled down my face and I really need to talk about it because its been stuck in my head ever since. Its one of those songs that just ties everything in and makes me think back to my time with those characters. The instrumentation uses the motifs found in the menu theme (that for all intents and purposes is the first half of the theme) I love how the lyrics reflect the story and then the second instrumental half of the song repeats the vocal melody, almost as if it’s retelling the tale, much like how we do in real life as a new generation rises and an old one dies. On itself, it would be a fantastic song but in the proper context, it’s downright memorable.

Or you know, at least that is my interpretation :P. And with that outta the way, today’s question is:

“What are some of your favorite theme songs and why?”

The song in question. But I implore you not to listen to it now if you haven’t, Play the game. It will be worth it.

Other topics may include:

  • What was the last time you got a song stuck in your head?
  • What book(s) are you reading right now?
  • Do you play any instrument?
