Pidgeotto...the "bird pokemon"...according to the Pokedex. Well no shiz! I've always like this fella, and his evolution even more so. Coming up with the realistic approach for Pidgey took very little time at all. Coming up with abstract designs and otherwise for most animals seem simple enough, but birds are kind of tough...Figuring out the proper ways the wings fold/fly, depicting talons, style of beaks for the right type of bird and all that.
This design you see for Pidgeotto is first and last mock up I attempted. It took a while to get down the coloring, though. Originally, there was a mish mash of styles and it clashed to the point where I thought it actually worked. When I came back to the work after a break, I was appalled at the distaster before me. I limited the color palette and began to distribute them accordingly, which cleaned it up nicely. So there you have it! Be sure to share to get the word out on this project with your friends and family!
+ Pokemon One a Day is a series illustrated and curated by Bonny John in an effort to represent the entire catalogue of characters from the world wide phenomenon that is known as Pokemon. The idea is simple - to draw and share one new Pokemon a day (weekends off!) until every Pokemon is completed. This project is an exploration of fine art styles for learning and leisurely purposes.
