2016. What a year. This is my inaugural year at TAY and since some of my fellow TAYers are reflecting on their posts I decided to do the same. It seems like my thoughts were concentrated on four major areas so let’s get to it.
- Square Enix and their products continue to dominate my life
Whether I am discussing how they have changed since becoming Square Enix
how disappointed I am in their game design choices
praising their sleeper hit title, World of Final Fantasy
Or having come to God moments with their MMORPG Final Fantasy 14 in all of its facets
I love/hate SquareEnix as a remnant of my childhood and first foray into JRPGS. I want them to get their shit together so bad and I’m not sure when they will. I hope that 2017 is a better year for them in all capacities.
2. I have an ax to grind against video game companies
When they are introducing blatantly cash grabby microtransactions and DLC
over promising and under delivering on content
And when they introduce some mechanics that may change the whole scope of the game for the worst I’m calling them out.
I love video game companies because they make my favorite thing, games. I’m not a developer so I can’t begin to understand the nuances of the job. However, I am a consumer of their products and if they continue to do shady shit I’m coming for them guns blazing. I hope some of these trends disappear or they find a better way to implement things so the cash grab isn’t so obvious.
3. I have a lot of favorite things
I haven’t even finished all of the lists that I could have made this year so expect more in 2017.
4. I had a few all over thoughts too
And of course the membership to Vita Island
I didn’t put all of my articles in here but these are my favorites. 2016 has been a rough year for me personally too but my love of writing has always kept me grounded no matter what was happening around me. I have loved my first year at TAY and I hope to keep it going through 2017. And to think all of this started with this majestic as fuck alacorn.
Until next time guys and Happy New Year!
