A quick cut—no dissolve, no fade, no bullshit—to a beachfront, and things are already exploding, and this song is blasting all the while, and it’s undeniably awesome and you’re ready and pumped to fucking command the living shit out of the soldiers.

THAT, right there, is one of the all-time greatest ways to start a video game. Who needs subtlety and nuance, after all, when you’ve got “Act on Instinct” on your side, in all its patently early-90’s glory?
