I'm really feeling it!

Series That Proves Anime Is Not for Kids Only

Anime, while an entertainment medium that is now widely enjoyed regardless of age, a lot of people that feels Anime is just for kids still exists. And while like in any other medium, there are indeed a lot of shows aimed at kids, the series we most love and discuss are probably aimed at a more mature Audience.

Last month Japanese site "Goo Ranking" asked their users the questions: What Anime series would you recommend for a mature audience to the point of get them hooked?. And while indeed Seinen genre is abundant on the list we get to see some nice surprises. Also of notice is how series like Cowboy Bebop or Evangelion are not on that list, that's why polls are so interesting. Here's the list:

1.- Space Brothers (Uchū Kyōdai)

As CR pointed out, 10 of the 35 ranked titles were broadcasted on Fuji TV's Noitamina time slot, which was launched precisely with the intention of expanding the target audience beyond the typical young male demographic (Shōnen)

So with all this, What series would you recommend to someone that thinks Anime is just for kids?, and inversely, What series would you like for your kids to watch?

I'll start, first the series that I would recommend to someone that thinks Anime is just for kids will be Chobits, (while not as intense as the manga), my young mind was not mature enough to get some of the dark things that are happening in the series, the really complex feelings and relationships each character has, the fear of being ostracized by society, and coming to terms with what one really wants in life and how you look at it. A rewatch (and read) some years later really put the series in a very different (and positive) light for me

Now the series that I would want my kids to watch is Touch. While there are some tragic moments in the show, the message of love, camaraderie, effort, fair play, etc., etc. is something that the show excels at depicting (and I want them to like baseball :P)

So now it's your turn, again the questions. What series would you recommend to someone that thinks Anime is just for kids?, and What series would you like for your kids to watch?
