Time is a funny thing, isn’t it?
Today’s my birthday. My early thirties are slipping away at an alarming rate. Years just don’t feel as long as they used to. I remember 22 birthdays ago being excited to get Street Fighter II Turbo for my Super NES. That was quite the long day, in a good way.
As birthdays go, I like to do certain things every year. Maybe it’s because that’s how I was raised, or perhaps I’m just weird or something. My father used to make me listen to this god-forsaken Captain Zoom Happy Birthday song every single year. It was terrible and embarrassing, but I can’t help but think it planted the seed of having a birthday ritual of sorts in my mind. Every birthday I make sure I eat whatever I want for each meal. Ice cream for breakfast? Check! I also refuse to do any real housework, because, ew. Housework. Finally, at the end of my day, I sit down and game. As a parent that’s gotten a bit more complicated, but I still make sure to find time for it.
My question to you, TAY, is this: How do you celebrate your birthday, if at all? Feel free to talk about this, or any other subject in the comments.
