Happy Thursday, everyone! The week is almost over! I don't know about the rest of you, but this week has REALLY made me earn the upcoming weekend.

Anyway, cutting to the chase. Building on yesterday's topic of villains, where I used Wreck-it-Ralph as the example, I'm going to somewhat shift gears and address the untouched part of yesterday's header image. What are your (least?) favorite video game related movies and tv shows? Now, they don't have to be about a specific game (a la Street Fighter, Mortal Combat, or Silent Hill), but they could be movies about games (Wreck-it-Ralph, The Wizard), or shows that have heavy video game influences (Adventure Time, Regular Show).

Here's my list:

  • Wreck-it-Ralph. I just loved this movie. Not only did it have a lot of great references and cameos, but I felt it really treated our medium with respect. Also, it took place in an arcade and REALLY made me want to go to an aracade again. Now I'm sad that they're gone. :(
  • Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I don't care what anyone else says. I loved the crap out of this movie. I hadn't read the comics, but I went into this movie and had a blast. It doesn't take itself super seriously, and it's just the right kind of campy. It's far from my favorite movie, but it's just such a funny, light-hearted flick that I can watch it over and over again
  • Super Mario Bros. Screw all of you. I love this movie. Sure, it's bad, but it's just a whole lot of fun.

TV Shows

  • Adventure Time. Finn is basically living a video game fantasy life, but beyond that, there was the episode where Finn and Jake go inside BMO and enter the video game world. It was a great throwback to OLD old-school gaming. I also like how they showed how difficult it would be if a real person was put in a video game world. Also, the show is just awesome in general.
  • Mega Man. This show was terrible, but I loved it anyway. I own the whole box set on DVD. I should REALLY go back and watch it again. It's so bad, it's hilarious.
  • The Super Mario Bros. Super Show. See Mega Man, but add Lou Albano as a real life Mario that introduces and closes out the show.

Like my list? Hate it? Want to add to it? Let me know below, or just talk about whatever. That's what Open Forum is for!
