Salutations Tay!

I hope you all are doing alright. I’ve been having a wonderful weekend celebrating my birthday by having my mom visit me and going out eating with her and my aunt. (Yes, I am a cool person. Party all night!)

But why, oh why, did Resident Evil 2 have to come out this weekend? I would have loved to have played it, and talk about it here with great insight. But I can’t. Therefor I’m gonna just talk about Resident Evil in general and keep my expectations to a minimum.

IT’S GONNA BE THE BEST GAME EVER!!! It’s looking very fine so far with everyone loving the game from the reviews I’ve read. Resident Evil has always been a guilty pleasure for me and I find enjoyment even in the bad entries of the series. But I started playing the series after Resident Evil 4 so never played the original games fully. Although I’ve read so much about them and tried them out in short amounts so never felt the need to. I remember trying out the PC version of Resident Evil 2 way back at a friends place. But the game was TERRFYING for me. Even if I am a fan of horror today it took a really long time to appreciate it. I didn’t watch my first horror movie until I was about 18 years old.

For me Resident Evil 2 Remake feels like a new entry rather than a remake. It just looks and plays so different from the original. I read somewhere that this game had a bigger development team than what Resident Evil 7 had, and when you look at the game that really shows. When I played the demo I thought the graphic was insanely good, and it feels like a good mix of RE7 realistic style and the more “goofy video game look” from the previous games. Trying the demo I also liked how much the gameplay reminded me of RE4. A lot of people complain about how RE4 made the series more action game than horror. And although that is true to some extent a large part of RE4 was still a slow game that felt like a survival horror. Especially in the first half of the game. It just quite brilliantly mixed those parts with goofy action at times. I feel like that is what a lot of the games are missing after RE4. So playing a weaker Leon against zombies that seems pretty damn hard to kill feels good. Like meeting an old friend.

Anyway that’s all I had. Here are some suggested topics for today:

  • Do you play Resident Evil? What is your favorite survival horror? If you don’t like horror, (HA!) tell us about your favorite cat in a video game.
  • What is the best game demo you ever played?
  • What should a “game remake” be? Should it mostly be a graphical update or is it okay to change the story and game mechanics to make it more “modern”?
  • Or talk about anything.
