News broke overnight of a PlayStation classic, and I’m overwhelmingly “meh” about it?!
Unlike the releases of the Nintendo classics, this announcement isn’t really doing it for me. You’d think it’s that I don’t like Sony but that’s not true at all. If anything, I should be really excited! The problem is that I grew up with Sony and so this release, even though it’s been 25 years since the console’s debut, feels still too...new?
Whereas I never grew up with Nintendo, so the NES and SNES were new to me (barring the multiple times some of those games have been released on 3DS or DS or whatever).
It feels unnecessary for what I already own in my library and what I’ve played. Of course, they haven’t yet announced the full line up of the 20 games but in trying to imagine what they’d put out there, I’m thinking I already own these things in various forms as digital downloads over the years or can just pop in my disc into my PS3 or something. Maybe.
I actually think I have my PSOne somewhere... hrm. I mean, this new thing is mini and cute but as someone pointed out, it’s not shipping with a DualShock so I’m once again denied greatness of having Ape Escape. That’s a game I do need again though because my pristine copy recently got destroyed by one of my nephews. T.T
I’ll settle for Brave Fencer Musashi but really Sony, just put that and Ape Escape on the PS Store already. I’ve got a 20th Anniversary PS Controller. I promise it’d feel like I’m playing an OG PlayStation again. Yeesh.
