Good morning pumpkin!
Hope you are enjoying your day doing all sorts of halloween things. Like trick or treating and drinking pumpkin latte and... stuff
... Alright I admit, I have never celebrated Halloween. So in a way I feel unequipped to write anything about it. Although I am a fan of horror. So even if I don’t celebrate the holiday I do enjoy a lot of the stuff comes out of it. In fact at the time of writing I am getting into the mood by listning to hppodcast. A pod were they read horror stories, mostly from Lovecraft.
I find horror an interesting genre in media to discuss. It’s something that split people and create strong emotions. Like think of a situation where you want to watch a horror movie with a friend. It’s a harmless one without any blood or gore, but it’s genuinely creepy. But the friend protest it and just gets nervous thinking about watching it. Then it would almost be cruel to watch it anyway. What other big genres create that situation? (Porn?) I mean I don’t enjoy romantic comedies most of the time, but I wouldn’t say it would be cruel to make me watch one. At least not in the same way. Despite both being fictional entertainment.
For me, I’ve been on both sides. As a child and teenager I wouldn’t ever dare watching horror movies. I didn’t start watching any until I was around 16-17, which was thanks to me growing an interest in the Silent hill games. The below average Silent Hill movie was the first horror movie I saw on cinema. After I started growing an interest in the genre the doors blew straight open and I felt like a whole new world open up to me.
But it’s not just games and movies I can enjoy horror from. I also enjoy ghost stories or novells. Or just someone drawing creepy images. It’s not that I believe in ghosts, I’m 0% spiritual. But if someone tells me of an creepy experience they themselves experienced. That felt supernatural or they just didn’t know what actually happen they have my full attention.
So in the spirit of Halloween. Let’s talk about horror!
- Tell us about a horror game, movie or novell you want to recommend or are looking forward to.
- Tell us about a scary experience you had, or someone you know, that felt unnatural. Or if you don’t have one talk about an urban legend you enjoy.
- Just share something scary you found on the internet. (Although don’t send anything too graphic, like a photo of a dead body or something. If it contains jump scares state clear warnings. I am thinking more like creepy pasta and such.)
- Doing anything special today for Halloween?
- Or talk about anything.
