Happy (Long) Weekend TAY!
A nice long weekend for me and my family. It is a civic holiday for most of Canada on Monday, so loads of Canadians will be enjoying an extra day off. We don’t really have any plans other than to relax, but we’ll hit Kempenfest at some point this weekend and see what arts and crafts we can buy. We bought this bulldog ottoman a couple years ago and couldn’t be happier with it.
Last week was a great gaming week. We had our friends up last weekend and there was lots of Rock Band, Dance Central, GTA V and other video game activities. They also bought my son Hyrule Warriors and Captain Toad for his un-birthday, so we have more awesome games in the house to play.
Last week I continued on with my play-through of NeverDead. I’m still enjoying it immensely and I wonder if many of the reviewers actually bothered to play a lot of the game before giving it a crappy review. I think reviews should definitely have an indication of the time the reviewer spent with the game (like many of the awesome reviews here on TAY).
I’m finding myself actually drawn into the story of NeverDead, it is a neat premise and the characters have grown on me somewhat. The gameplay is surprisingly awesome, especially the boss fights. They have some wonderfully designed bosses that can be fairly challenging. The whole game is very nice looking for a 360 game; I’d definitely recommend it for the $10 I paid for it new.
I also managed a session of Dying Light last week with my buddy on his Twitch channel. I’m really digging the game, it is just such a pleasure to move around in the world and the combat is fantastic. I’m excited to play again this week as I’ve finally figured out how to change the difficulty to hard without restarting. Not that the game is that easy right now, but I’ve heard the game becomes easier quite quickly when you acquire more advanced weaponry and upgrade your character’s skills.
I also dabbled with a bit of The Elder Scrolls Online last week. Just a single night to deal with guild sales and to farm some resources. I don’t have the patience to farm much anymore, so really the game is in limbo for the most part until new content is released.
I did watch my buddy play the new Imperial City PVP/PVE content on Twitch for ESO. This is on the test server, since the content won’t be out until the end of August for PC. It is nice to have something new for PVP and having PVE quests in the PVP area is definitely cool. It is also nostalgic to be playing in the Imperial City we all grew to love in Oblivion. I’m not much for the PVP, so I can’t say I am frothing at the mouth to get the new content, but at least it will be something new to play with my friends.
I also played a little Minecraft and Halo 3: ODST with my son on Xbox One. He was at computer camp all week so we didn’t have a whole lot of time to play together last week. This week we definitely have Halo 3: ODST in our sights to finish so we can look at Hyrule Warriors.
And to cap the week of gaming off, I finally tracked down the mod for Sonic CD on PC (2012 remake). This restores the intro and outro music tracks on the Japanese soundtrack to the originals instead of the horrible tunes they replaced it with. I’m a U.S. soundtrack fan all the way, but it is nice to mix it up once in a while and so pleasant to have the Japanese version fixed.
Hopefully I’ll have some time for NeverDead this long weekend. I still haven’t received my Windows 10 Upgrade yet and I’m nervously awaiting that; hopefully it will show up this weekend. I’ll lose my soundcard when I upgrade, which I can deal with, but I might have a problem with my built in Bigfoot Networks Killer E2100 LAN that might not have support under Windows 10. I guess I’ll have to take the plunge and see how things go.
So what are you playing this (long) weekend?
