Hello and welcome to the return of Diggin' Through The TAYbox, Episode 7: Also more than the power.
I apologize for the lighting on some of these, I took pics at night and my lighting in my room clearly does not play well with the flash on my camera.
Today's episode is on the (this is gonna be a mouth full) Transformers 30th anniversary Platinum edition Year of the Horse Optimus Prime.
This if you couldn't tell by the long name is a special version of ol' Optimus, as you can see from this box:\
Even has a flap to see the inside, oohh fancy.
Alrighty let us check out this beast:
If I'm not completely mistaken, he is just a repaint of the original release of Optimus. Main difference is since it's a Year of the Horse/30th Anniversary edition its special. He is a darker shade of red and blue, he's got some transparent red areas on the arms and waist, he's got the autobot/horse symbol on his right shoulder, and of course he's gold plated all over the place. It actually looks really nice, and not strange or out of place for him.
As far as posing and joints are concerned, he has em all over. Pretty much everything that has one can bend, swivel and rotate in all directions. The limitations for the most part being if another part is in the way, such as the usual joint suspects like his legs hitting his waist.
Being that he is Optimus MF'in Prime he doesn't need (or have much) in the way of accessories. His main gear consists of his Ion Blaster, an Energon axe, and the Matrix of Leadership, which is die cast and has a nice weight to it.
Of course the Matrix can be stuck into his chest cavity, though I noticed you can't close it completely while it is in there.
His Ion Blaster can actually fold up, for storage in his back.
And of course his Energon Axe just clips over his fist.
He stands about 10 or so inches high, so you may be asking why is the box so big? Well one of the cool things about this Optimus is he comes with his trailer, which is a special version as well:
It can also be set up into a battle station, and a repair station. The little cockpit with the claw can also be set outside the top of the trailer.
Here is a closer look at his transparent red areas:
Here he is in truck mode, and with trailer:
Lastly for a bit of reference, here he is alongside the 20th Anniversary Movie Prime
This Prime came out back in February or March I want to say, and cost around $120. I naturally put him on layaway and picked him up from Toys R Us in May just before Fanime.
