I'm really feeling it!

Tenacious Totodile! Pokemon One a Day, Series 2!

Day 7

Big Jaw Pokemon

Today, I get the pleasure of introducing the final starter of the trio of the Johto region, and my all time personal favorite water starter favorite, Totodile! This lovable reptile's got a big smile and charisma to match...Let's see how today's illustration went down!

Totodile and the rest of his line are known as the "Big Jaw" pokemon. This is strange in that the designation usually changes as the creature becomes more discernible with its unique traits through evolution. Nonetheless, with a big jaw comes a big head, which I played up for chibi factor which equals instant adorableness.

I'll be honest - the image I have of any Totodile is that of Ash's from the anime. His Totodile was the most cheerful and adorable thing ever in the history of mankind. His playful nature and swag for days inspired this playful expression and pose. He'll grow up to be a goddamn rockstar, which is why I named my Totodile from SoulSilver Rockodile. He shreds a wicked air guitar and once ate a bowling ball.

So I guess that's it! There really isn't much to say! I used a bold outline to make things pop and appear cartoony, while mixing gradient soft shading against bold flats and topped it all off with white highlights to give some texture to the young one.

As always, be sure to leave your remarks and critiques, as well as your answer to today's...

Question of the Day!

You forget your water gun to the pool party but you realize you have your favorite water starter with you! Who is he/she and how much property damage do you two owe after having a little too much fun?

Exploring the creatures of Gold and Silver, Pokemon One a Day, Series 2 can be seen as both a standalone project and expansion to the original marathon of artwork that sought to present one unique new illustration per day. This project builds upon the exploration of personal technical and philosophical concepts and visual styles under daily deadline to create quality works for personal and professional growth.
