It’s Dragonball Z x Pokemon today as we wrap up the week’s illustrations with Tyrogue! Akira Toriyama, manga artist and creator of the DB franchise share the same birth day, and so somehow I like to think his artistic powers flow into me through space magic. To cross Tyrogue into the style of Dragon Ball, I used references of teen Gohan, Uub, and more to create a likeness I hope you all will enjoy!
Because it’s Friday, let’s keep it short and sweet.
I wanted to go with a body shape of a youngish tween that could be pinpointed between kid Trunks and teen Gohan. I translated Tyrogue’s clothes using Gohan’s get up and the bandages of the original design translated well for a fighter. I used creative license to bump the brown off of his original shoes for the orange that’s found in DBZ for reference to the borrowed franchise, and adds some color to the otherwise very boring and odd palette of Tyrogue!
Finally, I added an aura and some scouter details for an extra bump! It was a fun piece to do, and kept it light to close out the week!
So there you have it! Thanks guys and gals for your participation for today and this past week. Have a beautiful weekend!
Question of the Day: Translate the foes and allies of the DBZ world into their Pokemon counterparts!
Exploring the creatures of Gold and Silver, Pokemon One a Day Series 2 can be seen as both a standalone project and expansion to the original marathon of artwork that sought to present one unique new illustration per day. This project builds upon the exploration of personal technical and philosophical concepts and visual styles under daily deadline to create quality works for personal and professional growth.
