Hey everyone! Welcome to the Graveyard Shift, the nightly hang-out hosted by Kotaku's reader-run blog, TAY. This is a place to talk about anything - your lives, your gaming habits, or whatever else you desire. Hop on in and join the discussion! When you're done here, you could always go check out the articles over at TAY or TAYClassic! Or, if this is your first time at TAY, please check out this TAYtorial!
On a complete whim today, I decided to play one of the games I bought during the last Steam sale called Endless Legend. From what I understand, it's part of the "Endless" series, and I believe they're all supposed to take part in the same universe (although I'm not entirely sure how that works out). Regardless, it's a really fantastic and kind of deep Hex-Based Strategy game.
It's like a mixture of Civilization and a Might and Magic. It has a pretty interesting amount of depth in terms of city building and diplomacy and everything, complete with trying to deal with City States and running a minor economy and trade. Plus, every battle between armies brings up a small battlefield where you can get into all these sorts of strategic battles.
Regardless to say, before I realized it, my thirty-minute peek turned into a three-hour blur that I barely managed to get to Turn 30 in. Not entirely sure what I did that took so long, besides the tutorial, but it totally took me by surprise by how into it I got.
So that's tonight's topic, TAYers. Well, actually, there are two:
- What's a game or genre that just completely sucks you in and the next thing you know you wake up in some ditch somewhere?
- What are some games that you bought in the last couple of sales that you ended up absolutely adoring? Is it Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance? Because it should be.
But as always, if the topic didn't interest you, feel free to talk about life, love, gaming, or whatever else you desire. The Wednesday Graveyard Shift is now open!
