Recently, I’ve seen quite a few positive discussions about the anime Overlord. I figured I’d give it a shot since I’m generally a fan of the ever-largening isekai genre. From what I’ve seen, it’s a fairly shallow but massively entertaining show. I intend to watch the rest of it when I have the free time, but there was one thing I was absolutely sure of after watching the first few episodes: I need a figure of Albedo. She is such a funny, engaging, and well designed character, I knew almost immediately that I needed a vinyl representation of her on my shelf. The problem? The anime is on its third season. This means that getting a hold of any of its figures is a massive pain in the ass.

There is currently a reprint up for preorder of the Nendoroid for Ainz, but the one for Albedo is currently over $100 on Amazon. Other figures of her are similarly overpriced. I would love any one of them at retail price, but I can’t help but feel ripped off when I pay more than MSRP for a figure. This happens pretty much every time I watch a popular anime that’s more than a year old; the figures are obnoxiously expensive and hard to find.

I understand this from a business perspective. These companies only produce figures of series that are currently popular, since those are the toys that people are most likely to buy. It’s just unfortunate that new fans of these series get screwed by absurd aftermarket prices. I’m not disparaging the figure market, more just complaining that I got into the show so damn late. I guess the moral here is that I need to be more astute in my consumption of seasonal anime.

Anyone else have this problem? Or am I alone in my dorky despair?
