So Lumines Remastered came out last week, and as someone who had some longtime interest in the game but had never dived in, this was the perfect time to finally see what it was about! The music is expectedly great, and it should be pretty obvious what this Loved Trax will be about so let’s just get to it.
Mondo Grosso feat. Kj
It had been years since this game entered my mind, and I knew very little about it for pretty much the entire time I was aware of it. So it immediately caught me off guard to read the Kotaku blip from Mike Fahey about the remaster’s announcement and see him single out this Shinin’ track for a reference drop...and then see that he’s constantly brought up “Shinin’” for like every goddamn Lumines article he wrote over the last six years.
And then, with Kotaku’s video breakdown on the remaster: “Shinin’s a classic” - Chris Person
Is it really that amazing, dudes? REALLY?
*proceeds to actually play this game myself starting the week prior*
It’s got the awe of witnessing a sunrise running through its veins, and that makes it the perfect opening “skin” for someone’s first time playing this game. What other introduction could possibly sell the promise of the game any more immediately?
It’s often a crapshoot when dance songs decide to make an acoustic guitar their centerpiece, but it ends up being indispensable to the majesty of this tune. When played just right, strummed with a slightly soft touch, it can take on a hypnotically arresting state of heightened emotionality. It is that precise vibe that Mondo Grosso taps into, and mixed with the low-key vocals from Kj, it makes for a refreshing listen.
Headphones are a must, if possible.
RedStripe Loved Trax—originally from days of Tumblr past—is a series about the music Justin adores, with special emphasis on songs from (or introduced by) video games and anime.
Finally, maybe it’s slightly random, but seeing that he figured pretty prominently in this post, I really want to say: Here’s to Fahey’s continued recovery. Keep on!!!
