I'm really feeling it!

So, for some/many, I’m sure this isn’t new information, but I wanted to share just in case anybody was in my shoes. I love Animal Crossing. Unconditionally. When Welcome Amiibo came out in 2016 as a free update, I was super thrilled.

I like the idea of having data saved to game cards, and thus freely swappable between systems. In my (admittedly anecdotal) experience, SD cards are much more prone to corruption than 3DS card saves as well. While an amazing addition to a classic game, I was disheartened to see shortly after installing Welcome Amiibo, that it FORCED a transfer of all the save data onto the SD card. Life went on and I dealt with it.

Last week, I discovered that there was a Nintendo Selects version of New Leaf with Welcome Amiibo built into the cartridge. It looks like this:

Illustration for article titled TIL: You can put your Animal Crossing New Leaf: Welcome Amiibo data back onto a game cartridge (even if your physical OG New Leaf data was forced onto an SD card with the free update).

I tried to do some research prior to purchasing regarding whether it would be possible to move the forced SD card migration on a PHYSICAL version of the OG game BACK onto this dlc-inclusive cartridge. I saw posts about moving the digital version over but nothing about transferring a save that was forced onto an SD card on an OG PHYSICAL version of the game.

So I took the plunge... AND IT WORKED!

If there’s anybody else that’s uneasy/unhappy with the fact that the town save file for the physical version of your new leaf game was moved off the cartridge, buying this version of the game is your remedy.

You’ll see the option to import your town onto the cartridge right at the start screen!

Note: In no way, shape or form am I claiming to have discovered this first. But it was difficult for me to find an answer for this exact situation.

Hopefully somebody finds this helpful!
